Call it brutal,
We call it Bruut

A building with heritage

Before you scroll on: this building has been around for a while. Keep scrolling and watch a 'brutalist monster' pull off the city's best comeback.

A Bruut building

On the banks of the Amstel, where the city never stands still, stands a building that has weathered wind and rain by standing its ground. Formerly known as Leeuwenburg. Designed by architectural firm Zanstra, Gmelig Meyling and De Clercq Zubli and built in the seventies, in concrete that paid no heed to trends.

Upright. Robust. Unyielding. Exactly what Amsterdam needed then. And what it needs again now.

Brutalism in its purest form

Grey. Blocky. Rigid. Exactly how people saw it thirty years ago. And exactly why it is loved again today.

Geometric forms. Raw façades. You recognise them in every city, yet see far too few of them. But when you do, they command your attention. Bruut is brutalism in its purest form. And that is exactly how we intend to keep it.

Bruut
transforms
again

We chose guts over maximum lettable floor space. We honour Bruut’s robust character, while giving the building a new purpose.

Its uncompromising nature remains. But its doors open. To a new generation. To the entire city. Here, the coffee is as good as the stories.

Ready for the future

Opposites belong here. This is a place where you can work, too. Where neighbours and major companies share the same space. Where old-school warmth meets productive meetings. All under one roof. Bruut became beautiful simply by staying true to itself.
